    TEG July & August 2020 Exams - UPDATE

    In response to the challenge of COVID-19, all TEG written and aural exams scheduled to take place in July and August 2020 have been cancelled. The B1 and B2 oral exams will be held online however and our 2021 exam schedule has been arranged.

    In light of the advice from Government of 12 March encouraging people to work from home as much as possible, we kindly request that you contact us at teanga@mu.ie in relation to any matter involving Irish language courses or TEG exminations. Additionally, we intend to proceed with the current TEG examination schedule.  However, this will be reviewed on 30 March and the information on this website will be updated at that point.

    TEG B1 Oral Exam for PME candidates - additional date announced

    Institutions of Education around Ireland will be accepting applications shortly for the Professional Master in Education (PME - Primary Teaching) due to commence in September 2020. As part of the entry process, applicants are required to take the Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (TEG) Meánleibhéal 1 (B1) Irish-language oral examination. An additional exam is being run in Maynooth on Saturday 29 February for candidates who missed the first round of exams.  Applicants must achieve 65% or higher in this oral examination to satisfy entry requirements.     Changes to the post-graduate entry process for primary teaching

    On 13 November 2018,the Minister for Education and Skills, Joe McHugh T.D.,  announced a plan to have one oral Irish examination for students seeking to gain entry to post graduate programmes for primary teaching run by DCU, Maynooth University, Marino Institute of Education and Mary Immaculate College (the four State-funded providers of primary teacher training).  

    TEG Meánleibhéal 1 (B1) Oral Exam - New Section Added

    Candidates who intend taking the Meánleibhéal 1 (B1) exam in 2019 should be aware that there will be an extra section in the oral exam going forward. As well as (i) answering syllabus-based questions and (ii) describing a picture, candidates will engage in a role-play task as part of the oral exam.  Full details are available here.

    TEG Award presented to Roibeard Ó hEartáin, Irish Language Officer, Kerry County Council

    During Oireachtas na Samhna 2017 in Killarney, Maynooth University presented Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge Irish Language (TEG) certificates to successful candidates from Co. Kerry who recently undertook oral exams. At the same event, a newly established award, Gradam TEG, was presented to Kerry County Council’s Irish Language Office in recognition of the exceptional work that the organisation has done in developing and promoting the use of Irish in the workplace and throughout the county.
